Hey guys! Yes, I have risen from the depths of Tartarus. It's been a while since I last updated, and I'm sorry for that. I'm not gonna promise that it won't happen again, because you know me. I'm still relatively new to this whole blog thing. ANYway, on to the post.
“Life is a book and there are a thousand pages I have not yet read.” -Cassandra Clare
This week's post will be another book review! This one is pretty cool because Clockwork Princess is the last book of the Infernal Devices series (Click here to read my review on the previous book). It was written by Cassandra Clare, and was published on March 9th, 2013. It was a Teen Choice Book of the Year Finalist, which is a huge achievement, because teens can be quite picky when it comes to books. I should know -- I'm soon to become one! Here is what some picky-ish reviewers have to say about this book: | |
“Compelling and believable…it may be Clare’s best undertaking to date.” -Entertainment Weekly
“The unusual, satisfyingly indulgent conclusion will leave fans emotionally satiated.” -Kirkus Reviews
“A must-read.” -Booklist

Emotionally satiated? Heck YES. After reading the summary of this emotionally satiating book (and the book itself, hopefully), you'll have an idea of why it's described so.
WARNING: THE FOLLOWING TEXT CONTAINS SPOILERS. I ADVISE YOU NOT TO READ ANY FURTHER THAN THIS MESSAGE UNLESS YOU HAVE ALREADY READ THE PREVIOUS BOOKS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK, AND DOOON'T SAY I DIDN'T SAY I DIDN'T WARN YOOOUU!
Tessa Gray is preparing for her wedding with Jem, trying on golden dresses and such. However, halfway through, Gabriel Lightwood arrives, disheveled and flecked with blood. He delivers a message that his father has transformed into a worm from (to Will's great delight) demon pox. but Tessa, Will, Jem, Cecily, Gideon, and Gabriel go to the Lightwood Manor to investigate, battle Benedict (the worm) and find the following message scrawled on the wall of Benedict's study: THE INFERNAL DEVICES ARE WITHOUT PITY. THE INFERNAL DEVICES ARE WITHOUT REGRET. THE INFERNAL DEVICES ARE WITHOUT NUMBER. THE INFERNAL DEVICES WILL NEVER STOP COMING.
The crew decide that the infernal devices were referring to Mortmain's automatons. Other clues help them conclude that Benedict was indeed working for Mortmain. As they search for Mortmain's whereabouts, Jem's yin fen is running out. Word on the street is that Mortmain and those working for him have bought up all the yin fen. The less of the drug there is, the more Jem's health is decreasing. Through a letter, Mortmain makes a deal with the Institute and those living in it. If he can gain possession of Tessa and use her power for his own evil, he will send a supply of yin fen to Jem regularly. The crew now has to decide whether to accept the deal or not.
Will Mortmain succeed in capturing Tessa? Will Mortmain and his automatons be ever defeated? And will the love triangle between Tessa, Jem, and Will ever be solved?

Aaand here's what I think:
OMG. This book was… so amazing! The emotions were so deep, and after I finished, I was in a daze for quite a while. This is a must-read for people who love to be moved by books. The plot was really well constructed, although in order to understand certain things, I will probably have to read The Mortal Instruments, the sequel-series to TID. All in due time. It was a little unrealistic to [SPOILER ALERT] fulfill both sides of the love triangle. As a supporter of Team Will, I was a little unhappy that she would stay with Jem forever. And I'm certain that Team Jem supporters were a little unhappy as well because she married Will first and had children with him. [SPOILER END] But other than that, I loved the book. I'm proud to be a part of this fandom. In my opinion, this book is aimed towards ages 13-15.
And there you have it! Do you think The Infernal Devices was a good series, as I do? Let me know in the comments. Also, what other books do you guys want to see me do?
For now, this is goodbye.
