“One must always be careful of books," said Tessa, "and what is inside them, for words have the power to change us." -Cassandra Clare
This week, I read a book called Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare. It is the first book in The Infernal Devices series, and this series is the prequel to The Mortal Instruments series. Together, these series make a super-series (is that even a thing?) called The Shadowhunter Chronicles. Clockwork Angel was published on August 31, 2010, and has received over 19 awards, like The Silver Inky Award of 2011. Cassandra Clare was also a finalist in the Teen Choice Author of the Year award. Here's some praise for Clockwork Angel and Clare.
“A fantastical world of werewolves, shape-changers and vampires.” -Indie Booksellers “Clockwork Angel is fun, but more importantly: it’s well-written fun.” -Indigo Books “Fans of Clare’s Mortal Instruments series will enjoy this one in which Tessa Gray is kidnapped, learns she can transform into other people and is rescued by demon-slaying Shadowhunters as she learns more about the world she comes from and how to survive.” -Kansas City Star “Mysteries, misdirection, and riddles abound.” -Publishers Weekly “Cassandra Clare, beloved author of the Mortal Instruments series, has scored another hit with this much-anticipated prequel set in a…steampunk Victorian England…be forewarned: Once readers dive into this first book in the Infernal Devices series, they won’t be able to wait for the sequel.” -Entertainment Weekly “This crowdpleaser’s tension-filled conclusion ratchets towards a new set of mysteries.” -Kirkus Reviews “[C]ompulsively readable…you can bet your sword newcomers to the world will be rushing to read what they’ve missed.” -Booklist “The action-heavy plot takes off from the first page, propelling readers toward a dramatic conclusion…” -SLJ | |
